Overland Bosnia and Herzegovina
Uloško Lake

A blend of natural beauty, rich history, and diverse culture

Bosnia and Herzegovina an incredible blend of mountains, rivers, and wild highlands. The tour begins in Croatia and leads us to Ramsko Lake, hidden among the mountains, where the blue waters meet quiet villages along the shore. From there, we continue to Uloško and Orlovačko Lakes, emerald gems in the heart of Zelengora, while following the pristine flow of the Neretva River.

Along the way, we also stop in Konjic, where deep inside the mountain lies Tito’s bunker – a monumental Cold War relic and one of the most mysterious sites in the region. After the rivers and lakes, we explore mountain passes and high pastures all the way to Bjelašnica and Lukomir, the country’s highest and most remote village, where time flows more slowly and the landscape evokes centuries past. On Visočica, wide panoramas await us before we descend into the Rakitnica Canyon, revealing one of the wildest and most beautiful rivers in the Balkans.

Finally, Konjic with its Neretva and old stone bridge completes the journey through the heart of Bosnia – a combination of nature, history, and true off-road spirit.

Itinerary

We meet in Croatia at Camp Garjak on Lake Peruča. There is an option to go for dinner in the small town of Vrlika.

We cross the border and enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. We drive by road towards Livno, from which we ascend Mount Cincar. From Cincar, we descend to the road and continue towards Lake Ramsko, where we will camp.

From Lake Ramsko, we head towards Konjic by road, which we will briefly explore, as we must arrive on time at the ARK D-0 facility, Tito's secret bunker that was built for 26 years, 300 meters underground. After a guided tour of the bunker (in English), we will take a gravel road to Lake Uloško, where we will spend the night.

From Lake Uloško, we will drive along the course of the Neretva River on a gravel road to one of the most beautiful lakes of Zelengora, to Lake Orlovačko, where we will spend the night.

From Lake Orlovačko, we enter the heart of Zelengora through forests and pastures, and head to the Željeznica River, where we will stay overnight at the camp.

From the Željeznica River, first by road and then by gravel, we head towards Bjelašnica, all the way to the peak from which the Olympic skiers descended in 1984. From the top of Bjelašnica, we descend to the village of Lukomir, the highest inhabited place in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will spend the night at the foot of Bjelašnica by the river.

From the foot of Bjelašnica, we drive through the canyon of the Rakitnica River, which separates Bjelašnica and Visočica. At the end of the canyon, we ascend Mount Visočica where we will drive across endless meadows. The journey ends in the fairytale town of Konjic. We will spend the night at a hotel.
